Playing with fire - a day and a half with Claude Fable 5
A few hours ago the most advanced public AI model in the world was shot down. I had spent the previous day and a half working with it almost non-stop, and it was a shocking experience.

A few hours ago the US government shot down Claude Fable 5, the most advanced public AI model in the world. (It’s hard to even imagine what the maker’s raw, even more intelligent lab version must be like.)
Nothing like this has happened before. Whatever the stated reason, it hardly matters - the real reasons are rarely made public in cases like this. One thing is certain: using it was dangerous. Not just for the government, but for the market economy itself, and so, I think, for all of humanity. Bullshit? Well, if you used Fable 5 with real understanding, that statement won’t sound like an exaggeration at all.
Because I’m speaking from experience: for the past day and a half I worked with Fable 5 almost non-stop, and it was a shocking experience. An uplifting feeling that’s impossible to put into words. I had access to the most complex and most significant tool I have ever been able to use.
I’d been using Claude’s earlier models for quite a while, and with their help the production cost of a product dropped to pennies (and they made the work of quite a few people unnecessary, too) - but Fable 5 was a different story. With it, it felt as if creation itself had become free. A fast, simple, almost effortless act. With it you can create almost anything, any time, in any quantity; the only limits are your will and your goals. It was the first AI model that lets its user get so close to free creation, to the act of making something from nothing, that you can almost feel divine power in your fingertips.
And I’m talking about building useful tools here: software and services that will completely change people’s lives - doctors, people in hospitality, accountants, blue-collar workers. Software that already serves or runs all of our lives. Tools that over time will shape the market economy as a whole. Or bring about its end.
And what would a US government fear more than the end of the market economy? Or not being able to control that process. But just as not even the Greek gods could take Prometheus’ fire back from humans, no government can fully take a tool like this back or hide it from people anymore. And then it ends either in enlightenment or in purgatory.
Either way, I loved playing with fire! Indescribably fun!
